The ambiance at Izakaya Kichinto sets the perfect stage for a relaxed yet vibrant dining experience. From the moment you walk through the door, you’re greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere with rustic wooden decor and soft lighting. The space is both intimate and welcoming, with tables that are perfect for small groups or solo diners. You’ll notice the chefs working in the open kitchen, showcasing their culinary skills right in front of you, adding to the lively vibe of the place.

One of the standout features of Izakaya Kichinto is their diverse menu, which perfectly combines traditional Japanese comfort food with local Portland flair. The dishes here are meticulously crafted, and each plate feels like a work of art. The menu includes a variety of grilled meats, fresh sushi, and seasonal specials that change regularly, giving diners a reason to keep coming back.

For starters, the chashu pork belly is a crowd favorite. Slow-cooked to perfection, the pork is tender, savory, and pairs beautifully with the light soy-based dipping sauce. Another popular appetizer is the edamame with a dash of chili flakes, which offers the perfect balance of heat and salt. For a heartier option, the kushiyaki skewers, grilled to perfection and served with a tangy tare sauce, provide a delicious variety of flavors that satisfy every craving.

Moving to the main courses, the ramen is one of Izakaya Kichinto's best sellers. The broth is rich and flavorful, with a deep umami taste that comes from hours of simmering. The noodles are perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of bite, and the toppings, like the soft-boiled egg and tender slices of pork, elevate the dish to something special. Whether you opt for the classic tonkotsu ramen or the shoyu ramen, each bowl is a comforting, soul-satisfying experience.

If you’re craving something more unique, the donburi dishes, like the unagi don (grilled eel over rice), are a great choice. The combination of the smoky eel and the sweet sauce is a delicious contrast that will leave you coming back for more. Additionally, the tempura here is light and crispy, with a variety of vegetables and shrimp that are perfectly battered and fried.

When it comes to drinks, Izakaya Kichinto offers an impressive selection of sake, beer, and Japanese whiskey. Whether you’re a seasoned sake connoisseur or new to the drink, the staff is always happy to recommend something based on your preferences. The yuzu sake cocktail is a refreshing and light option, while the Japanese whiskey highball is perfect for those looking for something with a bit more kick.

Customer reviews consistently highlight the exceptional service at Izakaya Kichinto. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, you’ll feel welcomed and well taken care of throughout your dining experience. Everytime I go here... I have no complaints. The obanzai is incredible, just get the ultimate. The specials always hit, and a pitcher of beer with noodles is a must. If you get super lucky, Nan will be your server, and she is the best in the city. Eat, drink and bang the drum on the way out! Don't forget to tip, the staff hustles and deserves appreciation!

The restaurant is located in a residential area. The food here tastes decent, slightly less salt/flavor for our taste. Staff are super friendly and give great recommendations. Great atmosphere as well reminds me of the izakaya in Japan. Overall, we had a good experience .

I've never been asked to take my shoes off for a booth before but that was a nice experience with the lovely atmosphere. I had the Oregon roll with my Ramen and it was amazing. The food alone is *chef's kiss* but the atmosphere is just wow. I'd recommend this place to anyone that wants a Japanese restaurant experience! You even get sandals to walk around in the establishment after being seated.

This place is so good. I had the jellyfish ponzu, and it had a delicate flavor and a nice bite, and the spicy miso ramen was rich, warm, and comforting. It's really obvious they make their own noodles, and they were perfectly al dented. I love going to restaurants open late, and this is a legit izakaya experience in Portland.
